Why I'm Not Worried About AI Replacing Writers (And I am one!)
Will AI replace writers?
The short answer? It already is.
It’s disrupting every industry–especially the copy writing industry. However, of course it’s not going to replace writers entirely. We still need human and original thought and experience.
The Uses for AI with Writing
AI is very useful when it comes to analyzing writing or a video and giving us a summary of that video or creating it in the format of a blog post.
The Problem with AI and Writing
However, a lot of it still needs to be human edited to put the writer’s (or editor’s) unique spin on the topic and add his personal experience. (Something that AI can’t replicate very right now, when it tries, it gives a very general and basic review or “personal story” about how this toothbrush changed Sara’s life [for example]).
So human text tends to still be more interesting. However, if you give the ai a start with a rough draft or an outline and tell Chatgpt 4 to make it into a website copy or a newsletter, it can give you a nice start to the content.
The Need for Human Editors
Then if you human edit it, you’ll be golden as far as the writing content is concerned. However, for a writer, the content is only half the battle. (Unless we’re talking about books. For nonfiction books AI can definitely be useful to write if it’s purely informational. You just need to double check its facts). Then you need to package it well if you’re dealing with blog posts, newsletters, and social media posts like on X or Facebook. That’s the main struggle though. You need a good template for those things and make the information look good with pictures and maybe videos included to spice things up and make it more engaging for the viewer.
Therefore, the art of writing is being replaced by the art of putting your thoughts on paper in a blog and asking AI to write it nicely for you. Writing is being replaced by being an editor (for the AI text) and being a graphic designer in the digital realm of social media and the internet. See I read to much AI text now, I’m even starting to write like one using words like “realm” and such which wasn’t in my vocabulary before 2023.
Conclusion
Anywho. Yes. AI is replacing writers but not in the way that you think. There’s still a high demand for good writers and good stories with original thought.
And in case you’re wondering, this post was written 100% by AI. Just kidding. I actually wrote this one myself. wink, wink.
